The Rainbow Report – Making October LGBTQ History Month in Miami-Dade Schools 🌈

“Sometimes it is the people no one can imagine anything of who do the things no one can imagine.” – Alan Turing

Safe Schools South Florida enthusiastically supports the Miami-Dade County Public Schools (MDCPS) in recognizing October as LGBTQ History Month, and now more than ever, we need your active participation to make this a reality. The Miami-Dade County School Board will vote on a proclamation declaring October as LGBTQ History Month on Wednesday, September 6th. Astoundingly, last year, the measure failed by a 7-1 vote.

We need your help to convince Board members to vote YES this year.

The proclamation serves as an essential acknowledgment of the manifold contributions that LGBTQ individuals have made to society. It also aligns with M-DCPS’s commitment to ensure a safe and welcoming environment for all students, staff, and family members, including those belonging to the LGBTQ community.

Take Action Now: We urge you to send an email to any and all School Board Members, asking them to vote YES on Item H-11. Doing so will send a powerful message to our LGBTQ youth: their contributions are valued, and they, as individuals, are loved and respected.

Here are the email addresses of the School Board Members:

We extend our deepest gratitude to School Board Member Ms. Lucia Baez-Geller for sponsoring this item. She has shown immense courage in doing so, and we must stand in solidarity with her and with our youth.

By recognizing October as LGBTQ History Month, MDCPS would be taking a critical step toward creating a more inclusive, accepting environment. The history, experiences, and contributions of LGBTQ individuals would be elevated, enriching the educational experience for all and nurturing a society that genuinely values diversity.

Thank you for your help. Together, we can make a difference.
