Virtual Protest Information:

Florida authorities have ordered public universities to disclose information about transgender students in public universities.

Join Safe Schools South Florida, trans students, and allies across Florida and the nation on Thursday, February 23, in a symphony of creative resistance against this draconian policy. You can help advocate for student transgender rights by downloading and using the social media profile and cover picture provided below this coming Thursday, February 23. Please tag us @safeschools1991 and use #transstudentrights to show your support of safe spaces within our schools so that all students and faculty can feel accepted, protected, and valued.

As a pluralist society, we are responsible for protecting the rights and well-being of all people, including transgender individuals.

We cannot remain silent while transgender students are forced to disclose personal information that puts them at risk of discrimination and harassment. We must stand in solidarity with them and take action to protect their rights.

It is essential to call on lawmakers to repeal this discriminatory policy and make it clear that we will not tolerate it. We must use our voices and nonviolent resistance to advocate for a more inclusive and accepting society where everyone is treated equally, with dignity and respect, regardless of gender identity.

Let us stand together in support of transgender students in Florida and worldwide as we work towards a future where everyone is treated with equality and justice.

FIU Protest Information:

The “Fight for Florida Students and Workers” is a protest from 11:00 am – 3:00 pm at FIU MMC GC Lawns, which endorses the nationwide walkout “Can’t Ban Us” from 12:00 – 1:00 pm.

The protest is in response to the recent political events in Florida that are attacking marginalized communities, academic rights, and the very idea of social justice. Specifically, two weeks ago Florida State Government called for data on DEI initiatives and transgender-related care in public universities. A week later, a public statement and a budget proposal were put forward that called for the ban of DEI and CRT initiatives. In response, PSU is mobilizing and organizing a protest on the FIU campus. We invite on-campus organizations and clubs, nonprofits in South Florida, and news outlets to spread the word to as many factions and demographics as possible.

This fight is not just for FIU students but all citizens affected by these laws and policies. Currently, thousands of people in our South Florida community still do not know what is happening or what is at stake. This protest aims to bring awareness and keep momentum strong with substantive actions. At this protest, we will ask attendees to fill out a survey to speak about their experiences with these laws/bans. As well as circulating a petition denouncing these discriminatory policies. The plan is to organize on the FIU campus and, in the following weeks, mobilize and organize to bring that fight directly to the State Capital in Tallahassee.
