The Rainbow Report – Safe Schools TV: Expanding Horizons and Empowering LGBTQ+ Youth in Uncertain Times
As we move further into 2025, Safe Schools TV remains a beacon of hope, truth, and empowerment for LGBTQ+ youth, parents, and educators across the nation. In the face of a rising tide of fear, censorship, and political instability brought on by the current administration, our commitment to storytelling as a form of resistance has only grown stronger.
Last year was a transformative period for us. We continued to build on the success of shows like Tiffany Explains It All and Queer History 101 and expanded our partnership with the Happening Out Television Network through the production of Rainbow Roundtable. These programs not only educated and entertained—they sparked vital conversations in homes, schools, and communities across South Florida and beyond.
What’s New in 2025?
The Debut of Taboo Talk with David
This year marks the highly anticipated launch of Taboo Talk, our most ambitious and youth-led project to date. Season One, written and produced by students and hosted by Miami-Dade Public School student David, courageously tackles topics often considered too “taboo” for the classroom—sexual education, healthy relationships, online safety, safe sex, LGBTQ+ inclusion, cultural awareness, and HIV/AIDS education.
What makes Taboo Talk especially groundbreaking is its approach: every episode centers student voices and is crafted to be age-appropriate and culturally relevant to South Florida’s diverse communities, particularly its large Hispanic population. At a time when open discussion around identity and health is being actively suppressed, Taboo Talk creates space for truth, knowledge, and empowerment.
Our Gratitude to It Gets Better
Season One of Taboo Talk was made possible through the generous support of the kind folks at It Gets Better, whose continued commitment to LGBTQ+ youth helped bring this vision to life. We are eternally grateful—not only for their funding but for standing with us in our shared mission to uplift queer youth in South Florida and, with Taboo Talk, across the nation.
As we prepare to share Taboo Talk with the world, we welcome the opportunity to collaborate further with It Gets Better on a joint marketing plan to amplify its reach and impact. Together, we can ensure this youth-led series reaches the eyes, ears, and hearts of those who need it most.
Continuing the Conversation
2025 will also bring the return of beloved shows like Tiffany Explains It All, the launch of our new series CerdaFied, and Queer History 102, alongside new episodes of a revamped Rainbow Roundtable. With each new season, we reaffirm our commitment to authenticity, education, and resilience in the face of oppression.
Additionally, we will continue to spotlight HIV/AIDS awareness as a central part of our programming, echoing the global goal of ending the HIV epidemic. We believe health literacy and visibility are crucial tools for survival and liberation.
A Glimpse of What’s to Come
As a token of our appreciation, we’re offering an exclusive early look at the HIV/AIDS-focused episode of Taboo Talk, premiering across all Safe Schools TV platforms this spring. This episode, like the entire season, is the product of student vision, leadership, and vulnerability.
Looking Forward
The path ahead may be uncertain, but our mission is unwavering. At a time when fear is being weaponized against queer youth, Safe Schools TV chooses to respond with courage, creativity, and connection. Your continued support—whether through time, talent, or resources—helps us make this work possible.
Let 2025 be a year not only of resistance, but of radical hope. Together, we can continue to build a future where LGBTQ+ youth don’t just survive—but thrive.
Stay tuned. There’s so much more to come.
